Twirl-o-rama dress action

I saw this dress. It saw me. BAM!! True love. I carried it home with a silly grin on my face, laundered it, then tried it on. A perfect fit.

Mis Papelicos in full bloom comes to mind when I wear this diaphanous dress with its brilliant bold plumage - the flowers, the stripes, the frills - and it twirls most excellently.

The dress has spaghetti straps so I had to wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath. The top part is shirred and dark brown, not black, which is difficult to see in the photo. Also, the dress is fully lined with black satiny fabric. I love everything about this frock, including the fact that the yellow stripe is not near my face.

The wind was whispery cool today and my hand flirtatiously brushed up against the fabric making it breathe and sigh all around me as I willowed down the sidewalk. Why the Earth did not stand still in my sartorial euphoria is beyond my ken.

Details
  • dress, thrifted, $8, Wildlife Thrift Store (WTS)
  • little-nothing fishnet tights over pink leggings, sample sales
  • Miu Miu boots, thrifted, WTS
  • denim jacket, thrifted, Value Village
  • fingerless gloves, retail, Canadian Tire automotive store

Ironically, this colourful dress lends itself to black and white photography. The painting on the wall was previously on the floor. I think it's finished.

I broke my rule: I told myself not to post again so soon, but how could I not? Does that happen to you? You tell yourself not to post and then you put on something that feels so overwhelmingly satisfying that you just can't help yourself?

We're sailing into the weekend. I hope your week has been grand so far.

You look absolutely SPLENDIFEROUS in this amazing creation! I have no rules about blogging - sometimes I post every day and sometimes once a week. Rules are boring, non? YOU MUST NEVER NOT POST IF YOU FIND A FROCK AS MAGICAL AS THIS! Wow, bossy!

What an amazing dress - not surprised you broke your 'no-blogging' rule for it - thanks for sharing! (I love how it twirls :P)

There should be no blogging rules!! At my age, if it feels right I do it. You look happy in your frock...terrific colors.

I love this whole joyful post and how your painting and twirling elevate and amplify each other. So glad you and the Dress of Happiness have been united - we should all be so lucky to feel like Mis Papelicos in full bloom! Your boots, tights, and cropped-sleeve jean jacket are perfection with it, and when has a stripe of sunshine ever been so perfectly positioned? Marvellous.

oh, fuck, there's rules? That dress could have gone oh so wrong, yet it managed to be oh so right! It looks like one of those dresses you see on the rack and keep coming back too. It's kind of ugly, yet there's something about it that's calling you back. When you try it on.....it's perfect!

I love that dress! It's like a square dance, gypsy, can-can dancer dress!

I post nearly every day, so I don't have that issue.

"The wind was whispery cool today and my hand flirtatiously brushed up against the fabric making it breathe and sigh all around me as I willowed down the sidewalk. And as usual your outfit is equally colorful.

I'm smiling at Gracie's comment! I think you could write some saucy literature, Melanie, with your breathing and sighing and flirting and brushing... A new career beckons!
What a fabulously twirly dress, I love it, and completely understand why you are smitten. Love all the contrasting colours/prints, and those boots always make me a wee bit envious!
I agree with everyone above who says there are no rules about frequency of blogging. You couldn't have kept this beauty hidden from us, now could you?! xxxx

I would be thrilled if you posted every day, Melanie. You have the most incredible style, art, and photos. Plus, we never see awesome stuff like this in the thrift stores in the Bible Belt, USA :o Mostly just tops peeps shrunk in the wash...

I agree with Lynne, only I don't have time to read as many blogs any more! But I could read/look/gasp-in-awe at you daily.

Dress = amazing, and yes it does sing of Sacramento!

How could you not post??? This dress is thrilling and I love the multicolored skirt which screams to be seen. Your art provides the perfect backdrop to such beauty.

There is a bit of a Spanish flamingo dancer about this outfit... The dress is gorgeous on you, and the tights are a particularly nice touch (over leggings!).

You paintings are amazing, I wish I could go and experience them in real life!

Who would have thought it would look so good in black and white?
It's so YOU Melanie. If I'd seen it in a thrift store I would have immediately thought of you. Twirl on...

You, and that twirlistic fab frock are a match made in heaven!! Every time I see you top off another brilliant outfit with that denim jacket I wish I had one to wear over dresses; will have to look for one for fall. You look like you are taking a bow in the second photo after having just completed a spectacular dance performance.

I love it when something jumps up and says, "pick me! I'm yours!!" Invariably, it is just right, despite the colour, occasion, price, size, any other consideration. Why not interact with our clothes? I find I am happy to see the knitted triangle edging on my white skirt swishing around most satisfyingly. And nobody else has anything like it.

Much love from England,
