Blood-thirsty boucle jacket

Pink! Summer pink. I like wearing summer clothes in winter with tights and layering so much that all my clothes are jammed together in the closet now, whereas they used to be segregated by season. This is my outfit for today, which I am showing on Patti's wonderful Visible Monday!

I'm still having trouble figuring out my camera settings indoors, and since my clothes long to breathe outside, I must scout an open air location for self portraits.

I spotted the boucle jacket at a thrift sale a couple of summers ago. I was on my way home from a long road biking ride (which involved doughnuts) and decided to swing into a groovy neighbourhood on my way back into the city. There is was, shining in its pink goodness, for five bucks, but I had to wear it home on a hot, hot, hot day, dripping with sweat. Hm. Note the BEFORE shoes above. Note the AFTER shoes below.

Hence, the big bag. And I always have a red nose in my photos because I take them when I get home from my inspiration walks. The Michael Kors jeans were passed along by a friend. And that jacket - it had all kinds of fringy bits on it, so I ripped them off one night, and tore out the shoulder pads. The process inspired the cartoon below.

Happy Visible Monday. Thanks, Patti.

  1. Ha, I love the cartoon! The bag is big enough to tuck in the pink shoes until you find the perfect spot. I am studying the string on the blouse. Is that bit added on or part of the blouse?

    1. Oh, yes, the string... I guess this is a continuation of my lace-up fixation. I use this stretchy cotton cord and thread it through the armholes of a top sometimes, especially if a top is too big, because it tames everything and I like that thready, what-the-heck-is-that look. ha!

  2. I love inspiration walks and could never function without them for sure. Boy, what we do for a good find, huh? Love looking at the pink today. It's so very gray here in Seattle.

    1. Yes, it was grey here in Vancouver too, just a shuffle up from you. So of course I HAD to wear PINK. The colour sparked a great conversation with a man in my fave coffee shop - he was wearing pink too, bright bubble-gum pink, put me to shame. Good therapy all around.

  3. Today I wore my jeans up high with tall cuffs- and here you are rocking it the same way. Only I wore fuzzy black not boucle pink and I very much like your treatment of the jacket (ripped out shoulders and de-threaded.) I also love the string winding about your torso, not sure why it works but it does for me for sure!

    1. If my jeans are not cuffed with this combination, I loathe it - such a small difference for such a dramatic reaction. What is that about? Would have liked to see what you had on. Loved your most recent post, though. Very cool that our style vibes were connecting today.

  4. I love the way you re-constructed your jacket, Melanie. And both pairs of shoes will be divine! Thanks for linking up to Visible Monday.

  5. You can see tiny bloodstains in lots of my upcycled creations, as I have stabbed myself many a time with the dreaded seam ripper. As ye sew, so shall ye rip!! Love the pink, BTW.

    1. I love that comment - As ye sew, so shall ye rip! I haven't heard it before - it is yours? So true.

    2. I wish I could say yes...HOWEVER, when I took a sewing class in the late '70's, my teacher intoned it and I never forgot it. Does that make it mine now? Kind of like a twisted statute of limitations?

  7. Do your talents know no end? That cartoon is a scream. (Yes, so good to get a bit of mileage from an "unfortunate incident").

About your outdoor photo session, have you considered Granville Island? You would look cute in front of the cabbages, cucumbers, etc. Or at the fish mongers?? Lots of variety there!

Thx for your comments which are like water in my style desert.

    1. Hello! I'm so happy to be your style moisturizer! Yes, on Granville Island there are lots of tourists so they wouldn't mind taking my photo if I asked, which dispenses with the pesky tripod. I'd have to take the little Aquabus over... Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. You can take the girl out of Vancouver, but... Nice to see you here.

  8. Great outfit, I think your string/lace-up corset-less corset idea might just be genius!
    Wonderful cartoon too. xxxx

    1. Hee, thank you! There's something that reminds me of Greece or Germany about the lacing thing. My penchant maybe has something to do with a dress that my mum sewed for my sister when I was young - it had criss-cross laces on the front and I was so wishing I had one too.

  9. Your pinkness leaped out of the thumbnail in Patti's post. LOVE!!!!! I love all the layering you have going on -- esp the skirt over the skinny jeans. Great, just great.
So happy to have "met" you!

    1. Ha! Vix, I love your comment. I did another cartoon the next day called Romancing the Seam Ripper. Sadly, it does not have a happy ending. Thanks for dropping by!

  11. Seam-ripping is one of my all-time favourite activities. I love your solution of tying up a too-big top, I think I will try that with a dress I recently got at a jumble sale that I have been longing to wear even though it is made for someone considerably larger than I. So thank you!

    1. I don't think I know how to do seam-ripping the right way... I meditate, I think good thoughts. But I love ripping and tearing. Thanks for your comment. I hope this tying technique works for your new find!

    1. Yes. Self-timers, tripods, lighting, grrr. I want to run down the sidewalk like Julie flipping Andrews in my outfits while an idiot photographer snaps my photo. Since that won't be happening any time soon... Glad you stopped by!

  15. Hi Mélanie!

Where do i begin!I love the pink and red mix. I am a big fan of the dress and pant combination, it gives it a special twist, and so comfortable and always stylish

I also keep a lot of my summer clothes along with my winter clothes i love to mix summer and winter. I did have room since Mr. D son's was staying with us, but he left so i moved a lot of stuff in the spare room.
About the new lens, quite difficult, but i will get use to it.
Izzy and I took pics yesterday outside and in the subway, she has the same lens, but she is a lot better than me. I got a crash course with her yesterday, she made me work hard, you have to be in good physical shape with Izzy!

    Take care Mélanie!

I see you have more comments, people are discovering you, that is so nice! so happy!

    1. Hi Ariane,

Pink and red were always a big no-no so I love this combo for an extra reason.

You are very lucky to have closet space and how fun is the process of filling them up! I'm a bit limited but I cram as much as I can in what I've got...

It's great that you have a hard coach to help you out with the new lens. It's the perfect lens for style photography with such beautiful depth of field. Soon you'll be hard-core - Izzy will make sure of it!

I'm so happy to be welcoming more people here - you've opened a door for me, Ariane. xxxx
