Freakish Yellow Skirt Gallery

The Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show is a project I launched in Vancouver, Canada, in 2012, in response to a negative comment about a big yellow skirt that I wore. This offending item, playfully known as the Freakish Yellow Skirt (FYS), now flies to women around the world who then style and adorn it, kind of like a quilt. Why? To celebrate our individuality and our joyful collective spirit.

Below are photos of all the amazing women who have taken part in the FYS voyage so far. Click on the groupings for larger images and links to each stylist's posting. A big thanks is also due here to Shelley of Forest City Fashionista who coordinated FYS travels for a long time as well. She is an invaluable part of this story.

More background on this project and how to join are HERE. It is the original post for the Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show but the photos have been moved here because the original page was getting too huge. I never imagined the enduring power and magic of FYS!

  1. I LOVE IT!!!!! Didn't expect to see this when I clicked the mouse. There should be a IG account that's all it's own, I think. Congrats Mel, for starting a magical mystery tour that won't quit. XXXOOO

  5. Dear Mel, ... :-) ... I just recognized that the Yellow Skirt landed in northern Germany this month ... if you think about, how and in which way and where it startet, what way it went so far ?!?! ... You had to be vulnerable to feel the strength in art ... what else is needed to create an unbelievable and wonderful Art-Project like yours ... This Freakish Yellow Skirt will make it once to the hall of fame, as it's already on its way ... keep on, be proud, ... there is nothing similar traveling around the world to connect people this way ... even some might not understand your words, as Val S just comment on your Blog: "Sometimes I really don't know what you're talking about. Good thing your posts are illustrated!" - You gave the answer to Art right away: "... keep them guessing". In a couple of years (or some more) we both might sit at the Oceanside in rocking chairs, having a strong Italian Espresso and chatting about one little similar sentence, that gave it a change ;-) ... Freak OUT – love you blog – keep on, and have a nice and successful day ... lovely greetings from Europe - TT

  7. OMG....That looks like yellow parachute silk to me. Is it?
I lived in a tent made out of a parachute for 10 days at the Stonehenge Festival - a loooong while ago. Waking in the er... morning (just...) to the light shimmering though the translucent sun coloured fabric was a joy. Brings back very groovy memories. People noticed I was selling cake - with just cake in it - and came flocking to the yellow tent for refreshment....
